World Boy Child Day Celebrated by ABMF and AIBMF in Kolkata

In a heartfelt initiative to spotlight the well-being, development, and positive contributions of boys in society, World Boy Child Day was commemorated on May 16 by the All Bengal Men’s Forum (ABMF) and the All India Boys & Men’s Forum (AIBMF) at the Kolkata Press Club.

Observed annually, International Boy Child Day aims to highlight the unique challenges faced by boys in today’s world, while encouraging families and communities to support their growth, emotional health, and self-esteem. The event was an earnest call to action for greater societal awareness and inclusion.

“We must work together to create a society where boys can reach their full potential and feel safe,” stated MRA Nandini Bhattacharjee, emphasizing the need to address gender discrimination holistically and inclusively. “Set aside some time on this day to focus on the well-being of boys — in the family, in the classroom, in community groups and more.”

The theme for this year’s celebration was:
“Building Self-Esteem in Boys: Stand Up, Be Seen, Be Heard.”
This powerful message encourages the nurturing of confidence in boys, urging society to value their voices and contributions—not in competition with girls, but in tandem with them.

Participants were urged to celebrate the joys and strengths of being a boy, and families were encouraged to spend meaningful time with sons, grandsons, and young boys, creating lasting memories and encouraging emotional connection.

In an era of evolving social norms and increasing awareness about gender sensitivity, the observance of World Boy Child Day by ABMF and AIBMF serves as a vital reminder: empowering boys is essential for achieving a balanced, healthy, and compassionate society.
