MODERN ASTRONOMY AND THE VEDAS – a book by Tapan Baksi, has attempted to establish a common ground between the Vedas and the present-day research in space science.
This unique book is published by INDIC House and Karu Lipi and was formally unveiled by a host of dignitaries, including renowned linguist & academician Prof. Dr. Pabitra Sarkar (ex-VC of Rabindra Bharati University) at PRESS CORNER during 49th International Kolkata Book Fair 2026.

The book launch was supplemented by a Panel Discussion on the relevance of Vedas and co-relation with Astronomy. It was moderated by internationally acclaimed Astro-Physical Scientist Dr. Saibal Ray (Asso. Prof. & Director, HOD – Dept. of Astrophysics & Cosmology, GLA University Mathura). The Panelists included famous Science activist Dr. Utpal Mukhopadhay (Ex-Teacher of Astrophysics, Research Scholar), renowned scientist Dr. Somnath Basu (Managing Editor of INDIC House and Water Management Expert, USA) and Graphic Artist Subroto Bhoumik (Designer of the Book) and Tapan Baksi (writer of the book and ex-IIT (Mining), now settled in W. From time immemorial, humans are curious about everything surrounding them. Since the dawn of civilization, human endeavour in the search for new knowledge has been the driving force behind the groundbreaking discoveries that has laid foundation of modern society. Thousands of years in the past, sages and philosophers in India engaged in seeking the truth about the functioning of the universe, the galaxy, and the cosmos. The results of their in-depth studies and research in astronomical sciences were inscribed in the ancient Indian texts, the Vedas. This profound knowledge was passed on by the sages of the Vedic era to their pupils and disciples as oral texts. However, their legacy and these texts were not disseminated and remained largely unpublicized till recent times.
The findings of the astronomical studies of the present-day correlate very well with those of the pioneering work of the sages in India in the ancient times. Vedas are even more relevant today as they hold the potential to advance the current knowledge further, remarked the author Tapan Baksi.
