In a deeply moving and much-needed initiative, the All Bengal Men’s Forum (ABMF) organized a thought-provoking discussion titled “Care For The Old” on the eve of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day and Father’s Day. The program marked the beginning of a meaningful campaign under the theme “Be Comfortable With Growing Older”, urging society to embrace aging with dignity, compassion, and active responsibility.
The event brought together voices from diverse walks of life — legal, medical, administrative, and social sectors — to share real-life experiences, challenges, and practical possibilities in improving the lives of the elderly.
Distinguished speakers such as Dr. Dhiresh Chowdhury, Senior Advocate Jayant Narayan Chatterjee, Former IPS Officer Sujay Kumar Chanda, Mrinal Biswas, and Dr. Debanjan Banerjee engaged in a dynamic conversation that called for greater sensitivity and systemic support for senior citizens.
Key concerns raised during the session included:
-
The lack of implementation of existing government schemes meant for elderly welfare.
-
The absence of infrastructure and low public awareness, leaving many senior citizens vulnerable and unsupported.
-
The pressing need for collective community efforts to fill these gaps through empathy, advocacy, and action.
The forum received widespread praise for its vision and execution. In particular, Eminent MRA Nandini Bhattacharya and her dedicated team at ABMF were commended for their tireless commitment to this socially relevant cause.
The event not only highlighted the urgency of the issue but also planted seeds for a more compassionate and age-inclusive society.
